15th November 2016 – Overtoun House
By request this walk was to Overtoun House. We started off from Dumbarton East walking along the path until we crossed the A82 by pedestrian Crossing. Straight up the road opposite, passing some houses, and then up the Circular way to Overtoun House. The way was at first by a narrow path until it opened out on to a roadway. At a junction we turned towards Overtoun House. Just beyond the House there is a large bridge across a very deep canyon with a fast river. This bridge is supposed to have had a number of dogs, jumping over the wall to their death by striking rocks. We had a short walk up the river to waterfalls and a fish pond. Here there was a large fish carved out of a tree trunk. We then walked down the other side and headed back along the way out. This was a very pleasant section passing a house with a large pond. I was told it was used for swimming and ice skating. We now headed down the road to Milton. At this point we took a very brave crossing of theA82, to Starbucks coffee shop.
We decided to go back to East Dumbarton Station instead of the shorter way to Bowling because of a better choice of trains. We got a limited stop train to Hyndland and after what was a lovely day we took our various ways Home.
