Richard has been on the academic staff at Glasgow University since 1975, where he is currently the Hooker Professor of Botany. Throughout his career Richard has carried out research trying to understand all the molecular details of how photosynthetic organisms are able to capture and use solar energy in the early steps in photosynthesis. Richard’s work has been widely recognised and as a result he is both a Fellow of the Royal Society and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
Richard is a member and currently Vice President of Kelvin Probus.
