Glasgow boy, born and bred. Educated at Allan Glen’s School and Glasgow University.
Maths teacher to trade: taught sums for 20 years at Duncanrig Secondary School in East Kilbride; staffroom romance led to marriage with wife Catherine – still going strong after 53 years
Went back to Glasgow in 1985 and served as head teacher of Cleveden Secondary School for 20 years
Retired from the day job in 2005, although he kept his hand in at frightening children by acting as a scary Victorian teacher at Scotland Street School Museum for a further twelve years. Hobbies and interests since then include:
- Singing with the Hamilton Caley Male Voice Choir
- Being founding secretary of the Glasgow Head Teachers’ Escape Committee
- Voluntary work with the Robertson Scholarship Trust, the Allan Glen’s Endowment Trust and the Outward Bound Trust
