I have enjoyed a varied professional career, at least geographically speaking, having worked in Scotland, England, Australia, USA, Botswana, Kenya and Somalia. Most of the time has been spent in general practice, although there were significant spells in occupational health with Coats Patons and as the initial director of the Glasgow Drug Problem Service. Since retiring I have forged a strong link with the Tiyanjane Palliative Care service in Blantyre, Malawi, notching up around 15 working visits to the clinic. I am married with two fairly independent children and two demanding grandchildren, but still try to find time to attend to my bee hives as well as conducting Humanist funerals…now over 500 and counting.
