Ken was born in Falkirk but has lived in Glasgow since the age of 8. Schooled at Jordanhill, he completed a geography degree at Edinburgh University and a town planning diploma at Glasgow University, before stumbling into a career in economic development, with the Scottish Development Agency, Scottish Enterprise Glasgow and Skills Development Scotland. Prompted by a life-time of hill-walking and a love of Gaelic music, he took up learning Gaelic on retirement, eventually gaining a diploma in Gaelic Language and Culture at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Scotland’s Gaelic college. He is now working on the Dewar Project, researching historical stories from oral tradition collected in Arran in the 19th century, when not spending time with grandchildren.
