John Ross

I have recently retired from farming a 700 acre hill and upland farm near Portpatrick having taken over the farm aged 17 on the death of my father. My son Andrew is now the 4^th generation to farm this land.          In 1990 I was elected to the position of President of NFU Scotland – a position I held for 6 years. My talk will include the major changes I have seen in agriculture over the years and give some thought to future trends in the industry.           Subsequently I was privileged to be involved in other public appointments including Chairman of Dumfries and Galloway NHS, Commissioner of the Northern Lighthouse Board and for 5 years I was Lord Lieutenant of Wigtownshire.
