John Briggs recently retired from the University of Glasgow, having been Professor of Geography for the last 23 years or so, the last six of which saw him serving as Clerk of Senate and Vice Principal at the University. His research interests are in people-environment interrelationships and natural resources management, primarily in Africa, where he has been involved in collaborative research programmes with African colleagues for over almost 40 years, mainly in Tanzania, Sudan, southern Egypt, Malawi, Rwanda, Zambia and South Africa. He continues to be an Advisor with the UK Department for International Development (DFID).
