Ian Johnston has written a number of books and appeared on many TV documentaries on a maritime theme many of them to do with the river Clyde. His shipbuilding histories include that of Wm Beardmore & Co at Dalmuir, John Brown & Co at Clydebank and, most recently, the Fairfield shipyard at Govan. He wrote and design the displays at Fairfield Heritage Museum in Govan.
