Alexander Lukas Bieri started working for Roche Group Holdings in 1994 and first was
tasked with the management of market introductions of biopharmaceuticals. Pursuing his
interest in public relations and information management, he became acquainted to the
company’s unique heritage in visual communications and started publishing on Roche’s
architectural history. In 2000 he was appointed to the position of Curator of The Roche
Historical Collection and Archive, also assuming responsibility for the architectural heritage
of Roche. Since 2014 he also is the publisher of Editiones Roche, Roche’s in-house
publishing branch which produces books on themes ranging from science to history and art
history. He also curates a variety of Roche in-house museums and is organising exhibitions in
Switzerland and abroad. In his capacity as a specialist for 20 th century interior design, he is a
member of ICOMOS Switzerland. Currently, he is chairman of the Section on Business
Archives of the International Council on Archives, member of the board of the German
Business Archivist’s Association (VdW) and chairman of the working group on archives of
the chemical and pharmaceutical industry of the VdW.
Creating Identification through History: The Roche Archive
The lecture will give an insight into the many responsibilities and activities of a modern
business archive within a global corporation. Also, it will touch upon certain milestones in the
history of Roche which feature a connection with Scotland, like Roche's investments in Dalry.
