John Paton

John’s career has been in town planning, starting with Glasgow City Council as senior planning officer for the west end and city centre.  He then moved to the private sector, advising developers, housebuilders, institutions and architects on all aspects of the planning system and how to obtain planning permission.   For the last ten years he has run his own planning and development consultancy.

While studying for a Masters Degree in Urban Design at Strathclyde University, John wrote a dissertation on the history of the development of Hyndland, where he then lived.  That dissertation was subsequently used by Ann Laird in writing her 1997 book “Hyndland – Edwardian Glasgow Tenement Suburb”.
