Graeme Smith.

Graeme is a Chartered Accountant, having qualified with a firm now known as Ernst & Young. His career has been mainly involved in economic development, the building of New Towns and in urban renewal.  His late wife Jean was a very good golfer and active in a number of golfing societies and while he could play golf he was not so keen on keeping count of his score; this was too much like being at work.

On retirement he has become an author and publisher.  His first book was the Theatre Royal: Entertaining a Nation, an idea he had in the early 1990s  when he was a director of Scottish Opera and the Theatre Royal.  Graeme has spoken before to the Club about the famed Alhambra Theatre. He is currently a contributor to a new book to be published three years from now – The  history of the Fairfield Shipbuilding & Engineering Company.  He is a past convenor of the Friends of Glasgow University Library and continues as a committee member.  Graeme is also a committee member of the Friends of Glasgow Museums, which is now based in Glasgow Art Club.
