David Smith was born and brought up on the south side of Glasgow. He trained in Medicine at Glasgow University, then held various training posts before becoming a Consultant Surgeon at the Victoria Infirmary. He retired from the Victoria in 2007 after spending 34 yrs on the staff. His main interest was in the treatment of Breast Disease. He first remembers hearing about Beatson from the one of his senior colleagues in the mid-seventies and since retiring David has spent a considerable amount of time trying to find out more about Sir George Beatson’s life and times and the results of these enquiries will be the subject of his talk on March 28th.
